We had a Science Fair in our class. Everybody in the class worked really hard on their projects and really enjoyed showing them to all the classes in the school and our parents.

This week we have been learning about scale and how it is used. We worked in pairs to make maps of our school. First we measured the perimeter of the school and then decided on a scale we could use. We used the scale 1cm=1m. We then carefully drew our maps. We then measured the inside of the school and drew in where the different rooms were. It was trickier than we thought but all our maps turned out really well.

Well done to our chess team who came 1st in Laois Community Games. They will now be representing Laois in the next stage in Mullingar. All the boys and girls have been learning to play chess for the past year with Ms. Wall and they are really enjoying it.

5th & 6th class worked on a project about the Plantation in Laois and Offaly. The gathered all the information and designed a website to show it. They worked very hard using lots of different types of media to show their information. When they were finished they entered the site in the Eircom Junior Spiders Best Project section. On Monday we were informed that the project, The Laois Plantation Project, had been shortlisted for an award and that some pupils from the class will be going to Google HQ in Dublin. It is a fantastic achievement to be nominated. We are so proud of them. Congratulations!!!!!

My book report
My book was on: Heroes of Olympus, the house of Hades
Author: Rick Riordan.
Plot: Percy and Annabeth were sent on a mission to the underworld to stop the doors of death from letting all the Titans, Monsters & Giants from escaping to wake Gaia. On the way they met a Titan Percy renamed Bob. They have to kill the monsters before they wake Gaia.
Main character:The main character is Percy Jackson he 17 and has a sword called Riptide. He is a Half-Blood and that means one of his parents is a god and the other is a mortal. He wears a jeans and a t-shirt. Percy is confident, brave & adventurous. I like him because he is a good fighter.
The book was fun to read because there are a lot of fights. There are also lots of problems for Percy and his friends to fix and this makes the book more interesting. It also has an interesting cover that shows a fight between Percy and a giant.
My rating of the book was 10/10 because it was exciting and easy to read. It also has a glossary explaining who the gods are and what some words in the book mean.

On Saturday our school choir took part in Peace Proms and sang with the Cross Border Orchestra. We’ve been practising for a long time with Ms. Treacy and we’ve really enjoyed ourselves.
Here are some photos of us at Peace Proms.
