Welcome to the website of St. Abban’s NS, Killeen, Co. Laois.
St. Abban’s N.S., Killeen is a five teacher mixed national school. The present school was built in 1948 with a large extension added in 1992, to include two classrooms and a staffroom. St. Abban’s N.S., Killeen acquired two prefabs in 2008 to accomodate growing numbers. The school also has a juvenile football pitch as well as a basketball court, small yard and 2 additional football pitches which are all available for use by the pupils.
Beside the school is a large community Hall built in 2000 and the committee have generously allowed the school to have the use of the hall for sports, concerts, displays etc. and it is accessed through a side gate from the school.
Currently there are 89 pupils in our school in a total of 4 mainstream classrooms. Currently the maximum number of children per class is 26. The school also offers Learning Support facilities to both scaffold any children who require additional support and to challenge and expand the minds of children. The school engages in team teaching where teachers work together in a classroom with all pupils. We believe in education being accessible to all children.
